Lionel Messi was rested and did not play at all in the first leg, and he’s expected to start and captain his team on Wednesday. Messi is having one of the best seasons of his career, and he cannot stop scoring goals in the last two months. Luis Suárez is also expected to play more minutes than he did in Seville, and he’s also on a goal-scoring tear.

This is all about Barça’s ability to make a comeback, but Sevilla also deserves credit for how well they played in the first leg and how dangerous they will be at Camp Nou knowing they have a two-goal lead. This will be a fascinating game to watch, and if Barça can advance it’s because Lionel Messi brought his A game.

Watford vs Tottenham

Watford vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview: Spurs desperate for three points to put their recent bad form behind them.It has been a terrible week for all involved at Tottenham but they have a good platform to put their bad form aside on Wednesday against Watford.Tottenham Hotspur welcome Watford to Wembley Stadium on Wednesday just days after being eliminated from both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have endured a torrid week as his depleted squad suffered back-to-back defeats in the space of just four days.

However, Wednesday’s game offers the Lilywhites the perfect opportunity to get themselves back on track in front of their own fans.

Contrasting weeks

This time last week Tottenham were still in all competitions, going into their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg with a slender advantage and with a FA Cup fourth-round clash against Crystal Palace days later.

Now, Spurs find themselves dumped out of both competitions and the prospect of lifting a trophy this season has suddenly become highly unlikely.

As for Wednesday’s visitors to Wembley, Watford have had a successful week.

They were held to a draw against Burnley in their last league game but the point was enough to keep the Hornets in seventh place in the Premier League.

In the FA Cup, Javi Gracia’s side made the long journey up north where they disposed of Newcastle United in a comfortable 2-0 victory to secure a spot in the fifth-round of the FA Cup.

Team news

Spurs have been handed a huge slice of luck going into the game a Heung-min Son is in contention to feature.

The South Korean has returned to London a lot earlier than expected after his country was eliminated from the Asia Cup by Qatar on Friday.

Harry Kane and Dele Alli still remain out with their long-term injuries.

Ben Davies is also out of the clash after suffering a groin injury in the defeat to Chelsea but Moussa Sissoko has returned to training.

Javi Gracia has no fresh injury concerns.

Previous meeting

Watford have a dreadful record away to Spurs having never won in north London in the Premier League era.

However, in the past meeting between the sides in September it was the Hornets who prevailed.

Spurs took the lead through an Abdoulaye Doucouré own-goal but quickly turned the scoreline on its head as two quick goals from Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart secured a shock victory.

The three points saw leapfrog Pochettino’s side and move up to third place.

The Lilywhites did seek their revenge just a few weeks later as the two sides met in the Carabao Cup but Erik Lamela’s late goal was cancelled out by an Étienne Capoue equaliser in the dying seconds.

The tie was decided on penalties in which saw Paulo Gazzaniga shine as Spurs progressed into the next round.

Liverpool vs Leicester City
Premier League 2018-19
Venue: Anfield
Kick-off: 8pm GMT, tonight

Liverpool’s Premier League title chase continues tonight as Jurgen Klopp’s table-toppers host Leicester City.

Liverpool have the chance to extend their lead over Man City at the top of the table to seven following Newcastle’s shock win over Pep Guardiola’s side last night.

While Klopp has a number of injury concerns to deal with, the squad were able to take advantage of an 11-day break without a game and take a warm-weather training trip to Dubai in order to prepare for the challenges ahead.

Virgil van Dijk returned to training on Monday to put himself back in contention for tonight’s game.

The Dutchman missed a number of sessions having taken ill following the Reds’ return from a warm-weather training camp in Dubai last week.

However, he joined his teammates in a session at the club’s Melwood base yesterday and is likely to be passed fit to face the Foxes.

Speaking at a press conference to preview the game, Jurgen Klopp said: “Virgil was a little bit ill but he trained yesterday so we will see. He will train today and we will see.”

Klopp’s squad options have received a further boost after Dejan Lovren returned to full training during Liverpool’s stint in the Middle East, while Georginio Wijnaldum (knee) is also back at full speed.

But Trent Alexander-Arnold (knee) and Joe Gomez (leg) will be unable to feature against Claude Puel’s men as they continue their respective recoveries.

Meanwhile, the Reds’ medical staff must observe Fabinho’s reaction to resuming training today before deciding if the Brazilian can play a part after a hamstring issue.

The potential absence of the aforementioned trio and James Milner’s suspension resulting from his red card against Crystal Palace means Klopp faces something of a selection headache at right-back.

Probable XI: Alisson, Fabinho, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Shaqiri, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Crystal Palace’s narrow 4-3 defeat at Anfield may give visiting teams the confidence to have a go at the table-toppers, especially with Liverpool’s defensive injury concerns.

Liverpool should have too much firepower for the Foxes to handle, but expect Jamie Vardy to pose some problems for Klopp’s back line.

Liverpool won 2-1 at the King Power Stadium earlier this season, and have won 11 of their last 12 League games. Leicester have lost three of their last four, and will need to do something special to end Liverpool’s 32-game ubeaten run at home in the League.

Two managers on the opposite end of the spectrum. Eddie Howe might not be all too elated with the recent form that Bournemouth are in. But, the man is aware of his team’s level and early-season blitz, which he would hope can return on the back of their 2-0 win over West Ham United last gameweek.

For Chelsea, it is a matter of regrouping. Maurizio Sarri was agitated at the performance of his players in the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal. The Blues did bounce back to an extent, with a clean win in the FA Cup. But, with Arsenal winning their game, the pressure is on Chelsea to produce a performance and reinstate the three-point gap between themselves and their fifth-placed local rivals.

Chelsea’s last league visit to Dean Court yielded a 1-0 win and Bournemouth will hope they can do better on Wednesday.

We take a closer look at the two squads.

Team News & Tactics

Bournemouth

Lewis Cook, Dominic Solanke and Simon Francis remain sidelined for Bournemouth. Eddie Howe is also sweating over the fitness of key attacking duo Josh King and Callum Wilson. The boss has had more time to prepare for the Chelsea fixture, with the weekend off.

Asmir Begovic is likely to have to settle for a place on the bench again, with Artur Boruc impressing the 2-0 win over West Ham. The back four is more or less sorted, with Nathaniel Clyne, Steven Cook, Nathan Ake and Adam Smith set to take the field. Chris Mepham has trained well, but is likely to be an option on the bench, for now.

David Brooks and Ryan Fraser have dropped off a bit from their early season feasting. But, the duo are still expected to man the wide midfield spots, with Jefferson Lerma certain to start in central midfield. Lewis Cook’s injury all but confirms a start for Dan Gosling alongside Lerma.

In attack, Eddie Howe will be hoping for Josh King and Callum Wilson to be fit and available for selection.

Probable Lineup (4-4-2): Boruc; Clyne, Cook, Ake, Smith; Brooks, Gosling, Lerma, Fraser; Wilson, King

Chelsea

Maurizio Sarri has finally started to pay heed to the fans. Emerson Palmieri was given an opportunity and his impressive displays are set to ensure a start for him on the left side of the back four, with Marcos Alonso taking his place on the bench. Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz will likely retain their spots.

With Ross Barkley not really producing much to challenge Mateo Kovacic, the Croat is set to start alongside N’Golo Kante and Jorginho in the midfield three. But, Sarri must have made the trio aware that more is expected of them, especially from Jorginho, who has been kept quiet too often by the oppositions in recent matches.

Gonzalo Higuain is earmarked to receive his league debut, with Eden Hazard certain to start on the left. This leaves Pedro and Willian to contend for the last spot in attack, with the Spaniard likely to be preferred.

Probable Lineup (4-3-3): Kepa; Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Emerson; Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic; Pedro, Higuain, Hazard

Betting Odds

Favourable Bets

1. Both Teams to Score – YES @ 1.75

2. Under 2.5 Goals @ 2.10

Underdog Bets

1. Correct Scoreline – Bournemouth 1-1 Chelsea @ 8.00

Key Stats

1. Bournemouth have a contrasting home and away record in the 2018-19 Premier League. The Cherries average almost two goals a game at home (21 in 12) while they have only managed to score 8 goals in 11 away Premier League matches so far this season.

2. In their last three meetings in all competitions, at least one team has kept a clean sheet in each game.

3. Chelsea have failed to score more than twice in their last 10 Premier League games.

4. There is yet to be a red card in a Premier League match involving Chelsea this season.

5. Eden Hazard has directly contributed to eight goals in his last eight games against Bournemouth in all competitions.

No other player to watch right now. AC Milan’s decision to replace Higuain with Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek has already started paying dividends, with the forward scoring a brace on his first start for the Rossoneri. It is up to Higuain now to prove Chelsea that their part of the gamble has paid off, with the Blues allowing Alvaro Morata to be moved off their books.

The Chelsea attack needs a bit of rejuvenation and precision, all of which Higuain can provide. The striker was kept quite during the weekend, but will be hoping to strike a chord with Eden Hazard in attack. If the two do manage to be on song together, it could create quite a partnership for Chelsea going forward.

Prediction

Bournemouth 1-1 Chelsea

Bournemouth have a good record at home this season, despite their recent struggles. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s recent away form is not something to boast upon, with three wins and as many losses in their last six away games. All in all, the match is expected to be a tightly contested one.

Chelsea are likely to be more successful going forward, with Gonzalo Higuain expected to open his account on his debut. For Bournemouth, it will likely come down to whether Eddie Howe has Josh King and Callum Wilson available for the match. Should the duo start, we could see the home side earn a positive result on Wednesday.

Higuain is expected to get his first Premier League goal but may have to wait a while for his first league win as a Chelsea player.
